VICTORIAN
MANSION – Orrong Road, Armadale Situation. A large two-storied late Victorian mansion in good order. Task. Source a large antique wall clock and replace inappropriate wallpaper frieze in main bedroom. Action. Located a Vienna Regulator appropriate to the period; presented a choice of suitable hand-blocked wallpaper frieze designs; and recommended a skilled paperhanger. Result. Owners were pleased to avoid the time involved in both researching the correct items for the period and searching for quality items and suppliers. EDWARDIAN
WORKER’S COTTAGE – Yarraville Situation. The house was in poor condition with many period features ‘modernised’ in the 1930’s. Task. Advise on the correct designs for the verandah, front door/windows and front fence. Action. Provided a written report on options for replacements appropriate to the period and scale of the property. Result. The owners were able to brief their builder and fencing contractors accordingly. 1930’s
BRICK HOUSE – Glen Iris Situation. An original house with a 1960’s extension that the owners wished to replace. Task. Appraise the originality of existing structures, fittings and decorative features; advise on preservation and rectification sympathetic to the original; and advise on typical colour schemes and appropriate front fence styles. Action. Provided written report containing a detailed appraisal of the property, options for work to be done; and recommended suppliers and contractors. Result. Clients were able to brief their architect and builder more confidently as to what was required to meet their wish to retain the period flavour of the property. EDWARDIAN
HOUSE – Mont Albert Situation. An Edwardian villa already largely restored and extended. Task. Advise on appropriate designs for the front fence and gates, missing verandah fretwork and hallway fretwork. Action. Provided written report containing options and recommended contractors. Result. Enabled the owners to specify the appropriate designs to fencing and carpentry contractors.
VICTORIAN
FARM HOUSE – Seymour/Yea Situation. An early (1850’s) brick farm house with a large Edwardian extension, in poor condition. Task. Identify originality of existing structures and advise on options for preservation and alteration, to improve the practicality of the house sympathetic to the original. Action. Written report containing comprehensive appraisal of the originality of structures, fittings and decorative features, and options for rectification and alteration. Result. Owners were pleased to receive clarification of the features relevant to the different periods of the buildings; confirmation of some of their initial ideas for alterations; and options for rectification work sympathetic to the original. HOUSE – Kew Situation. A late Victorian weatherboard house in good condition. Task. Source appropriate antique furniture items and advise on stencilled dados and friezes. Action. Located a Victorian mahogany sideboard, hallstand and desk for purchase; provided written report containing options for frieze and dado designs and typical Victorian colour schemes. Result. Enabled the owner to make her own stencils and saved her the time in researching and finding appropriate antique furniture. |
